How does the personal training programme work?

MVM’s Bespoke personal training programme runs for a minimum of 6 months. It will start off with an initial session with your trainer to discuss your goals, your current training status or history, and any issues that might impede you from progressing.

The trainer will take this information away, along with any starting measurements and metrics, and will use these to construct a training plan for you.

This training plan will be customised to incorporate the important other things you have in your life, and will work around or work to improve any movement restrictions, or your overall level of ability. 

Your trainer will then get checkins from you weekly, and provide feedback on the progress you’ve made. They will also adapt and change the programme as you go to ensure you are getting the most out of it. 

The bespoke personal training programme does not require formal testing at MVM or elsewhere. Your goals will be personalised and can be adapted to anything.

However as with all goals, effective tracking of your progress will help a great deal, and you can talk to your trainer about what tests you might wish to do to achieve this.

Why start working with an online personal trainer?

An online personal trainer offers many benefits. just some of them are here:

A personalised approach

There are countless ‘out of the box’ training plans out there, hugely varying in quality. But something that even the best of them have in common is that they are a one-size-fits-all approach. 

For some people, experienced in the training that programme might offer, that might be fine. For others who are less experienced, they may in fact make some progress – after all some exercise is almost always better than none. 

However none of them tailor their approach to the goals and needs you have, the lifestyle you need to work with and any restrictions or weaknesses you are working around. 

Our trainers will do all of this, and after extensive customisation, will find a programme that fits with all the above, and allow you to progress much more efficiently. 

Expertise

Fundamentally, and online trainer is offering their expertise. But this can vary. Personal Training is a largely unregulated industry, so at worst you might find an online trainer who is able to get themselves into great shape, and thus has a significant social media following, but doesn’t have the skills and qualifications to train people with unique needs or adapt their training approach to each person. They can be ‘my way or the highway’ in their approach.

Our trainers are different. MVM trainers are all degree-qualified at a minimum in Sports and Exercise science or Sports rehab, and have their sports coaching certificates and personal training qualifications on top. You wont find a set of more experienced and qualified trainers in the industry. 

Cost

an in-person trainer is a costly exercise. If you get one who is appropriately experienced and qualified you’d probably be looking at no less than £75/session. 

An online trainer is a great deal cheaper. You still get all the experience and guidance for the programme as a whole, and the regular check-ins to ensure that you are making progress, but without the huge bill at the end of the month

Particularly for those who have some experience in the gym, the online trainer experience fulfils most of the same needs, and overlays a definite strategy to ensure you achieve your goals.

Accountability

Accountability is a huge part of the training process with an online trainer. We will check in with you weekly to ensure that the training sessions are good, and you have access to us any time to ask questions or get advice on particular challenges. 

We will keep you on track, and will additionally recommend testing that you can do at MVM or separately to help you see your progress throughout the programme.

Nutrition plus training combo

Taking up both the Bespoke Personal Training and the Bespoke Nutrition coaching gives you the best of both sides of the coin for health and achieving your fitness goals. Our two experts will work closely together to ensure that your training and nutrition plans complement each other, and that we are all singing from the same hymn sheet.

Taking up both parts of the plan, you will get two specialists overseeing your progress, and will get everything from both individual plans, at a discount!

Who will you be working with?

Our trainers, Ali and Harry are both degree-qualified personal trainers and sports coaches, and Exercise science professionals. They have a huge wealth of experience in training a whole range of people, from professional athletes, through to recreational exercisers, and people completely new to training of any sort.

They listen carefully to your goals, and to your information about your lifestyle and will develop a programme that finds the best line between these to ensure you get to where you want to go.

Additionally, as both of them work in the MVM lab, they are very accustomed to not only interpreting complex data about your current state, they are able to also identify what should be the priority for your training, and will be able to customise a programme around this.

You wont find a more experienced and friendly set of trainers anywhere.

Ali

Ali has been a sport and fitness professional since 2011, gaining a wealth of practical experience and supporting qualifications. She has worked with a broad range of clients, from keep fitters to competitive athletes in sports including swimming, tennis and football. She has a strong track record of improving both health and sport performance outcomes.

Ali enjoys coaching people to optimise their training and maximise their potential. She believes the data provided from the testing at MVM allows this process to be as specific and efficient as possible.

Ali has a BSc in Sport, Fitness and Coaching, is a certified Strength and Conditioning coach with the NSCA and is currently studying for a MSc in Performance Coaching.

Personally Ali has been involved in sport from a young age. She represented GB in tennis as a junior and competed in cross country running and swimming at national level. She has boxed competitively in the amateurs for the last 9 years, winning the southern area title, various international box cup medals and earning an England vest.

Harry

Harry has been in the health and fitness industry for over 5 years, initially playing sports and now working in sport as a career.

Harry is a degree-qualified Personal Trainer and a qualified Sports Therapist and sports coach.

Harry has studied Sports Rehabilitation at University level and uses this knowledge to further address and overcome mobility issues as well as optimising performance through his fitness coaching.

He believes in a scientific approach to fitness and is extremely fascinated by optimising sports performance through measured fitness testing.

Harry is keen on all kinds of exercise. He coaches football to juniors, and is currently preparing for his first Hyrox.

Bespoke Nutrition Coaching FAQs

How long do I have to commit to?

We ask that you commit to 4 months of coaching to ensure you give the programme time to work and for you to look and feel your best. We have selected this as this allows for 1 month of acclimatisation, and then 3 months of work.

Do I need to come into the lab?

No. The Bespoke Personal Training is done entirely remotely, with checkins and zoom calls.

If you want to take up testing, you can do that at our lab, or organise your own.

What if my situation changes and I want to cancel?

The personal training is a 4 month commitment. Because the trainer takes on a huge amount of work at the very start of the process, we require this to make sure that you give yourself and the your trainer the best chance of making it a success

Can I meet my trainer face-to-face?

This would not usually be possible. However, as our trainers also work in the lab in London, if you book tests to be taken at the lab, you can select to meet your particular trainer. The delivery of the programme is designed to be online.

How much is the plan?

The full personal training plan is £145/month for a minimum 4-month commitment

How do I know if the nutritionist is qualified.

Luke, our nutritionist has a Masters in Human Nutrition, as is registered with the Association for Nutrition (AfN)

What happens at the end of the 4 months?

If you want to continue to work with your trainer, you can continue to pay the monthly fee on a rolling basis, with 1 month notice of cessation.

Can I get this AND the nutrition coaching?

Absolutely – this is a great combo to take together. The nutrition will give you thorough grounding and plans for your food, and the Personal training will give you your exercise plans and track your progress. There is a discount for taking both parts of the package
